Ride Report - Retford Airport
On a dry but chilly Sunday Morning 10 Club members, joined the 60mile/96km ride out to Retford airport for Darren’s first Sunday Club run as leader.
It was lumpy start heading through Killamarsh towards Clowne on this 60mile/96km ride, once through Clowne and into Creswell the route flattened and we lost two riders who were building there mileage slowly in this early part of the season. Once through Clowne the 8 remaining regrouped and pushed on towards Retford Air Port really picking up the pace passing through Budby, Thoresby and then stopped a Gamston for refreshments.
After some refreshments we headed back Towards Clumber Park passing through Eaton, Upper
Morton on some very quiet country lanes. We then passed through Clumber Park which was more like the M1 with consent calls of ‘Car Back’, once through Clumber Park we headed through Carburton, Cuckney, Whitwell and then onto North Anston where we picked up the local roads and headed back to base. The entire group who completed the route also completed the months 100km Gran Fondo, so kudos to all who attended.
This was Sitwell CC’s first visit to The Apron at Retford Airport. we were disappointed that the breakfast Menu had been taken off by the time we got there but it was a warm welcome, decent coffee and cakes and plenty of room inside and out with front row seats of the runaway.
A good group ride once the lumpy start had passed. On the flat there was some fantastic group riding at a really good pace with everybody taking a turn on the front up until the refreshment stop. After refreshments the group riding continued until we got to Clumber Park where single file the only option was. It was very good communication throughout the group, pointing out potholes, manhole covers and dangers in the road.
All in all a good ride which ticked most of the boxes -, good conversation, decent café, new roads and a good accomplishment so early in the season.
The next ride will be an MTB ride down the TPT, leaving from Rother Valley Café at 9am on Feb 12th. Andy will be leading.
